Students’ Courtroom Success

This year, Brannel School entered the Magistrates Court Mock Trial Competition for the first time.

The competition is an active learning experience offered by Young Citizens to students in years 8 and 9. The competition involves specially written cases so students can try the law against their peers in courthouses around the UK.

The team from Brannel School competed in the Cornwall competition, held at Truro Magistrates Court in March and after winning this heat, were invited to progress to the regional final.

The regional heat held in May saw students prepare the defence and prosecution for a case involving criminal damage. The students did incredibly well and some are now considering a career in Law.

Autumn, who took on the role of Defence Lawyer said “My favourite part of the competition was that I had the opportunity to learn new skills.”
